Ship Wars
The Ship Wars Project Folder (Download)

Hello guys, for the last time ; u ; ♥

This is it.

This is our pride and joy.

And we’re giving it to you.

This is the entire Ship Wars project folder with all assets and all code running in Unity 4.3(.4)

DOWNLOAD PROJECT FOLDER

It’s protected by a Creative Common license, meaning that you’re free to tinker with it and upload said tinkering provided:

- it’s free and you’ll never make profit with it
- you name us, the original creators
- if you upload it again for others to tinker with (a bit like Creative-Commons-ception) it has to be under the exact same rules.

Don’t worry, if you have any questions after consulting the readme.txt (provided in the folder), just ask us! We’re no legal professionals, but we can try. (Just like Phoenix Wright. And dear god, he tries.)

Thanks again for everything! And never forget to ship your OTP ♥

Hello Folks, it’s been quite a while since the last update, right? And hopefully all of you were eagerly waiting for the release post of our game, too~

Well… here it is!

We’re proud to finally give you: Ship Wars

Disclaimer: No pofit is being made with this prototype. It is for personal enjoyment only. It was made at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt.

Sadly, we don’t have a browser-based version for you, but a download version. However, you don’t need to install anything! Just start the game.

With the folder you’ll also find a detailed release list, complete with all features, known bugs etc. Here’s  a part of it with the most important facts:

We proudly present the playable character of Ship Wars!

We originally envisioned a huge cast - as you might be used to from fighting games for example - to include all popular fandoms and cater to everyone’s tastes. But I guess it’s obvious that it’s an overly ambitious thought for a 3-month project.

Thus we hand-picked these lovely people:

- Link and Zelda from The Legend of Zelda series

- Marceline and Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time

- Cecil and Carlos from Welcome to Night Vale (Sadly Carlos took the short end of the stick and is still being worked on.)

Naturally you can mix and match them any way you want to! ♥

While it was hard for our producer to resist lobbying for her own OTPs we tried to go for a wide variety. We also decided on a 50:50 ratio when it comes to gender, because hey, fictional ladies need more love!

Thanks to your support we almost reached the goal of 150 Followers on this blog (148 at the moment)! So thank you very much! ♥

Final Presentation takes place tomorrow so keep your fingers crossed for Ship Wars Sake ♥ haha (ノ◕u◕)b

And here we go with the first of our 6 ship-able characters: "The Sage"

To introduce her properly I decided to put that speed drawing video together! The quality might not be the best, but I hope you guys enjoy it and find her design for the Ship Wars Universe appealing :D

The other characters will be revealed one after another until the day of our final presentation ♥

My Ship > Your Ship - by Talon - 2014

The battle theme for Ship Wars, a Tumblr-themed game about ships and shipping. Shippity shoppity ships! Check them out.

Album art by Aishishi.

For everyone who didn’t know yet: The great Talon composed the Ship Wars Battle Theme!

And he did an way too amazing job! The team loves the track, it’s catchy, inspiring and so adventurous and definitely sets the tone of the battle experience! ♥

♫~ Earworm Alert! ~ ♫

Make sure to check out his tumblr as well, he’s one of the best composer I know. So go and give him a listen! :D

The Ships

The ships you can see above are the 5 theme-orientated sets that made it in the game. They’re already modelled and playable. We have…

The Standard Ship

The Dashboard-Ship

The Steampunk-Ship

The Cat-Ship

The Fast-Food-Ship

Each set includes a hull, a sail, a set of four fans and a bridge that can be exchanged with every other-themed part of the same category! You can freely combine the different parts and create the weirdest looking kinds of ships. For example a cat in a box with chicken-wing fans, a steampunk-sail and a dashboard-bridge!

We really focused on this customization option because it’s a lot of fun to smash different themes together! It’s also one of these internet phenomena to be pretty crazy when it comes to the customization of things haha

Each ship part has its own value. Some make you faster, others increase your attack or range. The values are added to the values of the pairing you choose- With this you’re able to push the pairings strenght or balance out their weaknesses~ ♥

Oh and just to avoid misunderstandings:

We seperate Ships from Pairings. With Ships we literally mean ships, with pairings we’re speaking of the characters you can choose from. I am going to tell you more about the characters later ;)

_________

The Ship-Wars project has finally reached it’s last week (or better the last three days) of the production timeline. The presentation will be hold on Wednesday, the 5th of February.

So yeah, let’s talk about the whole project, the ups and downs so far and what the outcome will be.

First: There will be a game. It will contain lots of the features we aimed to put into the gameplay, but not all of them.

We will put a webplayer version online and you guys will be able to play it in matches with up to 4 people. We can’t guarantee a bug free game nor can we promise you a 100% funny gameplay. We worked hard to achieve as much as we did, but 3 months are just such a short amount of time. Especially when you’re stuck in what you’re doing due to reoccurring problems.

Ship-Wars had a lot of problems in the development of its networking system. Since I am not the programmer I can’t tell you what’s been the problem in detail, but we lost a big amount of time (up to 5 weeks) because of it. This results in us not being able to implement everything we would have loved to see into the final game. I am speaking of things like animations, custom icons, and other, related features.
Also the amount of time we needed to balance the game and make it “fun” decreased to a few days. We still do our best to get as much done as possible, but we just want you to know that there’ve been problems which lead to some losses in the Ship Wars game.

Anyway we still hope you guys will support us in our last three days ; u ; We reached an amount of 122 Followers so far. This is more than lovely and we want to thank you all for your support so far. ♥

Hello Ship-Aholics, I hope all of you had an amazing start in 2014!
A new year has begun and we all know what this means: New Ships and a loooooot of Feelz.
Anime-wise 2013 was the year of titan-slaying soldiers and a group of water obsessive swimmers, so I am rather excited what’s about to air this year. There’ve been a lot of cool games too (my personal highlights: The Legend of Zelda - A Link between worlds (Oh god that pun! XD) and Pokemon X & Y). So yeah, looking forward to this years surprises!
But hey, last time I promised to show you the target screen for our ship wars game- And here it is!
This target screen is supposed to show how we imagine our game to look like. It gives information about the UI (user interface), which is pretty important for our gameplay, and it gives an idea of the perspective for example.
This thing also serves a lot of design-related purposes: It answers Questions such as “What’s the style of the game?”, "Do the different objects work together?" and "Are the ratios fitting our expectations?". So for example this is how we imagine our battle screen to look like. You can see the players ship, as well as the ship of an other player, and how they’re attacking each other. You get an idea of the cartoony, playful style we’re aiming for and what kind of different UI-Elements will be implemented (compass, map and -of course- a health bar). They’re placeholders and of course we will draw own pictures of the ship-able characters |P
Haha, so yeah, next time I am going to talk about the ships (literally) you guys can get in the game and I will tell you more about their features.
Stay tuned and set sail into the shipping adventures of 2014! ♥

The Crew of the Ship-Wars-Shipping-Ship

Hello Folks, here’s the promised update with further information about the game & the crew behind ship wars!

image

CLAUDIA - The Producer

http://cal-cla.tumblr.com/

The one who came up with the original idea of this crazy, tumblr based shipping game! She’s the one with the vision, making the most important decisions and balancing the whole game. Claudia is the one who’s responsible for the teams motivation as well.

Yes, she’s indeed important LOL

image

DENISE - The Manager

http://ni-si.tumblr.com/

Denise is the girl who’s responsible for the whole management of a group of 5 people. She’s the one who’s got all the major dates in mind! She keeps track of important schedules, sets up lists and reminds us of coming deadlines. The design and creation of our GUI (Graphical User Interface) is part of her job, too.

She cooks delicious food, brings it to university and eats it in front of our eyes without sharing a single bite. What a…. nice girl. (˘⌣˘ )

image

MAREIKE - The Texture Artist

http://tariii.tumblr.com/

She’s mainly the helping hand, contributing to a lot of different tasks, such as concepts, model sheets, 3D modelling and so on. Nevertheless her main field of work is the texturing of every little model of our game!

Mareike also has some good connections to the café of our university - Our little coffee/chai latté/hot chocolate dealer, he he he.

image

MARKUS - The Programmer

Must not be hit by a bus. Markus is ship wars one and only programmer. So yeah, even though there might not be a lot of visual output on his side, his work is extremely important! He’s also the one doing all the networking stuff.

If you encounter any future bugs - IT’S HIS FAULT. BURN HIM! THROW A BUS AT HIM! Everything is fine 8D

image

AIS - The Art-Director

http://aishishii.tumblr.com/

Last but not least: Ais. She’s the leader of the art department, drawing all day long for Ship wars sake! Creating the overall design of the game, drawing concept art, model-sheets and more 2D-Art-Stuff is her main task, as well as the promotion of ship wars in the Internet.

You better support our tumblr or else she’s failed in one of her main tasks LOL No, definitely not begging for followers here

INFORMATION ABOUT THE SHIP WARS GAME

Now let us talk about the really important stuff: The game!

Ship Wars will contain the following features:

  1. Multiplayer-Online-Battle with 3 other players in realtime
  2. 6 characters, who can be ‘shipped’ in different ways (CRACKSHIPS ahoi!). Each pairing will have their own unique set of special attacks!

  4. Upload your own content in form of a little Icon that will be placed on the sail of your ship ♥
  5. REVENGE! You died? You are angry? No problem, our game allows you to take revenge by starting a final field attack~ Shitstorm everyone!
  6. Win battles and collect a lot of FEELs to buy new ship parts!

In the next post I will show you our target-screen of one of the battle scenes! So stay tuned, everyone!

And Feel free to drop questions, we’re glad to answer all of them! <3

"I Ship It" - Parody of Icona’s Pop "I Love It"

this is perfect it’s like our theme song

We have a message to share-! >D

Hey there! I'm not sure I understood everything correctly. So do players select characters from a provided list or everyone brings their own favorites/OC's?

Hey, thanks for the ask!

There’ll be a provided list of different characters to choose from. For our first prototype this list will be pretty small and limited, because of the little time frame we’re given to develop the game (we only have three months~).

Of course the main idea behind is to offer a freaking big list of dozens of playable characters to satisfy as many fandoms as possible ♥ But for now we sadly have to work with some restrictions.
